WHAT TO DO For this project you will be working in groups of at least three. Your group is resemble for the planning, shooting, and editing of a scene, or short story. That said scene must follow the following rules. Create a video that tells a story visually. That means no dialogue, no monologue, no voice of God. Also no prerecorded music. All 3 group members must appear as characters in the video in some form. All the following camera shots must be used:
1. high-angle Shooting from above that tends to diminish a subject.
2. low angle shot.
3. point-of-view Shot that represents the vision or the viewpoint of a specific character.
4. handheld camera An approach that can give a sense of urgency or chaos to action
5. extreme long shot (ELS) Shot in which the subject is far away from the camera.
6. place on object directly in front of camera, glass fabric, etc
7. do at least one pan (horizontal) or tilt (vertical) movement
8. Follow shot - The camera physically follows the subject at a more or less constant distance.
9. dutch tilt, this is where the camera is purposely tilted to one side so the horizon is on an angle.
10. Cutaway shots, shots that aren’t focused on people or the main action.
Also must include these effects/elements
11. ambient noise Distant traffic, refrigerators, fans, and similar interfering sounds used for dramatic effect.
12. jump cut A cut in which there is a jump in time between the shots.
You will have time to meet with your group on Wednesday (9/10). By Monday I want to your group to meet with me to discuss your idea.
WHAT TO TURN IN AND WHEN - Monday 9/29 On critique day (monday 2/29) you will turn in your (2 min at least) movie to me in a playable dvd and on the class website. One submission necessary for each group.
HOW WILL YOU BE GRADED Obviously this is your first work with a camera, so learning proper and inventive camera use is the reason for this assignment. You will have to work well as a group to find time OUTSIDE of class to work, I will not promise to have enough work time for your group to shoot and edit.
